Espresso Martini for brunch.

I knew I was not getting into just a coffee binge when I visited my friend Nico’s coffee shop in Ormoc City. I was quite hungover from the night before since I went out drinking with my friends and I was running on just 3 hours of sleep when I went aboard Ocean Jet for my three hour trip. As the boat docked and I got down, my stomach started rumbling, time check: it was 10am and I need to eat asap. It was quite hard to find a tricycle that knew where Unit 1A was, and I tried my best to explain the directions as instructed by my friend.
The café had glass walls and an eco-friendly feel to it. I went inside and settled in the corner facing the road. I ordered Nico’s recommendations, Kimchi Fried Rice and wait for it… Espresso Martini. I honestly was reading it when I just realized that Martini meant it had alcohol as an ingredient. But I guess, I’m really the adventurous type, because even if I could still feel the Jim Bean that I drank the night before gurgling in my stomach, I ordered it… with a shot of Patron (Tequila). Wow, I know. That’s one hell of an alcoholic beverage.
As soon as that espresso martini arrived at my table, I could smell the strong aroma of alcohol. Should I still drink it? I asked myself trying to weigh the pros and cons. But I paid 190 pesos for my coffee, I should definitely take a sip, at least. As soon as the liquid went down my throat I could feel my brain buzz, phew! You know what it tastes like? ALCOHOL! With a bit of coffee. Think of Bailey’s but with a lot more kick to it. Imagine drinking this one for brunch and venturing on a six-hour van ride home to Eastern Samar.
As the fried rice was served, I hoped that it would managed my current digestive system situation. And thank goodness, that Kimchi Fried Rice was divine which one should definitely try at Unit1A. It was a mass of orange-ish colored rice, some veggies and pork cutlets topped with a sunny side up all wrapped in savory and salty goodness. It was a perfect brunch on a bright mid morning in Ormoc City. As I chowed down and thought of the ways that I could further gulp that half-finished espresso martini smiling at me at the side of my main course, I could actually feel the alcohol settle in and let the coffee take over. My mood suddenly changed from this day-drinking lady who probably didn’t have anything else going on with her life to this person who is ready to conquer the world and whatnot. It was much like an encounter with Jager and Redbull but this time around I could remember everything.
After I finished eating, I made sure I savored my first time at Unit1A… like staying for their fast internet connection (haha). But the cool and minimalistic vibe that Nico had on his café was definitely hangout worthy.
So go check out Unit 1A when you happen to be in Ormoc City! Plus, I just tried their COLD BREW and it was the best one, so far!
PS. Unit1A’s Espresso Martini is vodka-based but the owner (Nico) gave me a shot of Patron instead lol
PPS. Nico’s cold brew is also available at Quality Bread Bakeshop and Cafen at Primark Tacloban! So if you don’t want to travel 2 hours to Ormoc, Primark has it for you and its just as good!

We have been product testing!

I have been experimenting with different kinds of fillings for our baked empanadas. These right here are Tuna Empanadas (Original Recipe by my Auntie Mabel). The crust is buttery, crispy and everything that you would ever want from a pie crust. I honestly think it tastes like a Danish cookie. Making the dough does take a lot of effort (arm exercise, included) but it’s so worth it!

I didn’t take a picture of the mini apple pies that I also made but those were also drool-worthy. Better than the ones at McDonald’s for sure.

Anyway, get these Tuna Empanadas at Cafe Stellar!
PS. We only make 25 pcs a day so if you want to order a big batch, please let us know.

Doc Wings!

Yes, there’s a humble place in Tondo that offers unli chicken wings for PHP 199!

Hey guys, I was in Manila for the weekend and amidst their samgyupsal culture, chicken wings still plummet through in the heart of Manila. Living in Cebu for five years, there a lot of local restos that offer chicken wings from Bad Boyz to Gibbs to Burrows to Wingers but in Manila City, it was actually hard to find a chicken wing place that not only was easy on the wallet but the palette as well. Doc Wings is located along a busy street in Tondo, though the place is a bit sketchy, the place boasts a cool barkada hangout visited by students and the like.

L-R: Original, Garlic Parmesan, Garlic Mayo.

We honestly waited for an hour because the line was too long, there were a lot of people there and for PHP 199, I guess it’s a steal. We were hungry enough to order 35 pcs and for only four people, it was a lot. They have a lot of flavors too, some were good, some didn’t really tickle my taste buds but overall I think everyone should check it out. It’s a breather from your unli beef and pork strips.

Natad Express.

I’m never too busy for food trips.

Natad Express Fried Chicken.

Hey guys, I heard there’s this new place that’s been serving food and my friend and I decided to check it out. From the name itself, Natad Express, it boasts a quaint place along Baybay1. As a wannabe pescatarian, I did order a fish item off the menu while my friend ordered fried chicken (because who doesn’t like fried chicken).

This will not be a full review because I haven’t really decided if I should do one or not.

But my impressions? Food kind of needs improvement (well from what my friend and I ordered lang naman since it wasn’t their specialty).
Plating and food presentation definitely plays well on camera.
I like the vibe of the place, it definitely screams “chill date-night, take me here.”

Will I visit again? Yeah, probably. It’s nice to hang out here with friends. Though I probably won’t spend another two-hundred five pesos here for the fish, sorry (huhu).

So if you haven’t visited this place, go check it out.

Life has been on the down low lately. Though I don’t show it at school or at the hospital, whenever I come home and change into my clothes and lie on my bed, I fight the urge to cry every time. Emotions keep on pouring in and I don’t even know where they are coming from. Maybe it’s the stress? But I’m not that stressed out these days so I don’t even know anymore. In all honesty, life has been great. It had its worst days but I’m still living & breathing smiles & laughs yet somehow, there’s still that pulsating thought of sadness, longing & even self-pity. I did cry last night, I didn’t know what else to do and when I was done I distracted myself with movies and waited for a calm mind.

My dad is in the city! We were supposed to have dinner at this new korean eat-all-you-can in Ayala Center Cebu called Kpub but my pharma class ended at like 6:30 and there were no taxis available because of the heavy rains plus rush hour hence, I had t ride a jeepney to SM and SM to Ayala which took me about an hour.

When I arrived, my dad and my brother had already finished eating and I just decided to get a smoothie bowl from prolly one of the best places to dine on healthy goodness; Mooshi Green Bar! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a fresh smoothie/juice store that makes the yummiest smoothies and juices (I have tried Tonic befor but nothing beats this one). I was supposed to get a smoothie but I wanted something with a protein boost and they recommended the smoothie bowl instead. It was sooo good. The cacao nibs were a bit too bitter but I loved it anyway. Definitely a 9/10.
I guess I just really wanted to do a quick update. I have a new instagram account btw in case you guys didn’t catch that one. I do not have pictures on it yet so I am really sorry but I think I’m going to post one tonight (if I don’t get too lazy).

I’m supposed to be studying for my Electro Stimulation class because I have an exam tomorrow on Biofeedback and HPVC but here I am and I am writing this because why the hell not.
